Jade Reason

A quick story on why you should always step up.

I’ll set the stage…

On a recent trip to Cape Cod,  Jenny, Fiona and I decided to roll out to some stores to see if we could find some bathing suits and gear for our trip to the Caribbean next month. It was a relatively early visit the the store that morning, and we were looking to get in and out quickly.

As we were walking into the store, I noticed what looked to be a low-key fashion shoot happening up against the wall of the building. I was able to tell that this was more than the average “assisted-selfie” session. I had to figure out what was going on. I always love to see people doing cool creative stuff.

So I met Jade. She’s a Parsons The New School of Design graduate, and has a recently-started fashion blog called EverydayRenee, which is a cool approach to everyday fashion and creative living. She was having a few shots taken for her outfit that day. In an interesting twist, a lot of my travel photography gear was in the trunk of my car. In a non-creepy way, I asked if I could jump in and hang out and add some photos to the mix. They agreed. The gallery to the right (or below, depending on what you’re seeing this post on) is a selection of some quick shots that I snapped.

“The hardest part is getting past the fact that someone might tell you to fuck off when you ask them if you can jump in.”

Look. It’s not a big deal. If you live and breathe it, you want to be a part of it when it’s happening around you. You want to contribute, and you want to learn. Sometimes, you need to step up. The hardest part is getting past the fact that someone might tell you to fuck off when you ask them if you can jump in. It’s rare that that happens. More often then not when you make the effort, you’re exposed to new things, meet new people, and get to put in work.

I was stoked to be able to meet Jade, shoot some pics, and admire those dope-ass Prada shoes she was rocking. I hope that I get the chance to shoot her again. So Jade, if you’re reading this… thanks. You made my day.

When you get a chance, check out Jade at EverydayRenee, and if you got the skrilla… give her a bump at her GoFundMe page.
